What is ayurveda? AYURVEDA [AYUR = LONGEVITY; LIFE /+/ VEDA = SCIENCE; KNOWLEDGE]: "LIFE-KNOWLEDGE" OR "THE SCIENCE OF LONGEVITY" Ayurveda, known as the "Science of Life", is a 5,000-year-old system of medicine developed by the same sages who gave us the philosophy & practice of Yoga. It is a way to categorically understand, nourish and maintain our physical "vessel", thereby supporting our body's ability to carry the mind and spirit on its path toward connection and enlightenment.
One unique marker of Ayurveda is its individualized "whole-person" approach to balanced living according to one's dosha, or mind-body constitution. Becoming acquainted with the unique patterns, tendencies, and needs of our own vessels ~ as well as the vessels of everything in our world ~ is the first step toward self-awareness, self-love, and ultimately, self-healing.

Background, Mission & Vision
"KRATU Katie": A BRIEF INTRO. Originally from central New Jersey, I now reside in Brooklyn, NY. My quest for a happy, healthy, and peaceful way of life for myself and all beings began more than twenty years ago, and I've been on a winding path filled with diverse learnings since then. My philosophy, approach, and techniques are based upon ancient knowledge ~ mostly in the Vedic tradition ~ as well as modern science -- with a touch of intuition, for good measure. :)
TRAININGS My holistic wellness trainings include:
Massage Therapy ~ Cortiva Institute, Hoboken NJ
Thai Yoga Massage ~ Sukha Wong & Renee Rice, Lotus Palm School
Reiki Level I & II ~ Darcy Skye, Brooklyn NY
Vinyasa Yoga ~ Ella Luckett, Brooklyn NY
Prana Yoga ~ Dr Jeff Migdow & Priti Robyn Ross, New York NY
"KRATU " can be translated as "intelligence in action" ~ it is one thing to know what we need to do, but another to actually do these things consistently. Sometimes we need some help figuring out how to effectively take action and make sustainable adjustments to our daily, monthly, and seasonal routines.
Nature has a lot to teach us, if we pay attention to its cycles, patterns, and symptoms of balance and imbalance.
Each of our senses (smell, taste, sight, touch, sound, & thought) can be consciously catered to every day to promote clarity and harmony in our inner and outer worlds.
Through the cultivation of self-knowledge and the study of mind-body sciences, we can discover what works for us vs. what works for others.
I believe that feeling better as whole individuals -- physically, mentally, & emotionally -- empowers us to more easily and more readily create a just & peaceful world for ALL beings.
It is for these reasons and more that I am so passionate about holistic self-care, and Ayurveda in particular ~ it is truly the Science of Life, providing comprehensive wisdom that can lead us to Be Well through sustainable lifestyle choices. My interest in natural healing practices (herbal medicine, Yoga & Meditation, Ayurveda, Energywork) led me to pursue my license in massage therapy as an accessible modality to introduce clients to the larger world of holistic well-being. I believe stress and lack of connection are related to many of our world's afflictions, and that an integrated approach is effective, and at times even essential for our long-term health and the health of our planet and humanity as a whole.
MISSION My goal is to nourish the mind, body, belly, and soulin accessible ways that respect our planet's natural resources and all living beings. I want everyone to know that supporting our innate cellular intelligence and the proper functioning of our biological systems (cognitive, muscular, digestive, and respiro-circulatory) ~ with a wide-angle perspective ~ allows us to cultivate wellness.
VISION I founded KRATU Wellness with two major intentions: (1) Help clients look lovingly & thoughtfully at the workings of their unique physio-psychological processes, and support them on an empowering path of holistic wellness through customized daily practices and conscious regular routines ~ primarily through the teachings of Ayurveda; and, (2) Cultivate awareness of how our individual bodies & minds are interconnected & interdependent with our surrounding communities and environment, and how we are related to the entire world ~ thus encouraging all of us to understand why we must go beyond simple self-care to take responsibility for how our lives impact others.
I would love to embark on a journey of self-discovery with you. Send me a message ~ tell me about your wellness goals and what's standing in your way. Let's see how we can work together. Thanks so much for reading. I look forward to meeting you.
