The science is there: Massage Therapy enhances circulation and promotes relaxation. Click here to learn more about the benefits of massage [opens new site].
Specific massage modalities offered by Katherine D. Rosenthal, LMT are described below.
Why Circulation Matters: Good circulation means water, blood, and oxygen are moving efficiently through your entire body, carrying vital nutrients to every cell, from your brain to your muscles. Cellular nutrition helps all of our organs and systems (e.g., cardiovascular and digestive) function at optimal levels, and facilitates the body's natural abilities to heal itself through the movement of lymphatic ("immune system") fluids as well as blood cells that repair muscle tears and other injuries.
Why Relaxation Matters: Relaxation of our body and mind helps balance the extra energy exerted - and the cortisol and adrenaline that are often released - as a result of the stress we encounter in day to day life, and also to help us recover from major life changes that tend to affect us even more deeply.
Stress has been found alongside many health issues: according to the Stress Management Society, "Prolonged stress undoubtedly makes people ill. It is now known to contribute to heart disease, hypertension and high blood pressure; it affects the immune system, is linked to strokes, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), ulcers, diabetes, muscle and joint pain, miscarriage, allergies, alopecia and even premature tooth loss." (www.stress.org.uk)
But, don't stress about your stress ~ self-care need not involve extended retreats in exotic locales (though vacations are good for stress management!). There are things you can do daily, weekly, and monthly to keep it in check, such as taking deep-breathing breaks, eating well, getting regular exercise, and - my favorite - massage!
As a New York State-Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Yoga Instructor, Level II Reiki Practitioner, and Certified Ayurvedic Nutritional Counselor, I can combine Massage (including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai, and hot stone techniques), Yoga (mindful movement, centering breathwork & relaxing meditation), Applied Ayurveda (5-sense holistic nutrition from Yoga's sister science), and Reiki (energy-healing to help restore the flow of your prana or life-force) to create a customized service that can help provide relief from stress, sleep or digestive issues, or muscle pain.
One of my specialties is Thai Bodywork, which combines Yoga postures with massage techniques to provide an "assisted" stretch that can help enhance flexibility and mobility, support athletic performance, improve circulation, and promote relaxation -- all of which can lead to increased overall health. Thai Massage is performed on a mat on the floor, with both client and practitioner wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, and uses little to no oil or lotion.
As an Energywork Practitioner, I utilize my Level II Reiki Certification and knowledge of the Chakra System to help clients feel more balanced mentally and emotionally.

Developed by doTerra - and using only doTerra brand, therapeutic-grade essential oils - this technique delivers benefits at the cellular level to help reduce physical pain as well as help manage mental and emotional stress. Please advise in advance if you have any allergies, as the products used are all-natural blends and plant-derived, single-note oils in a base of coconut oil (other base oils can be substituted).
TABLE MASSAGE As a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist, I offer therapeutic massages that combine Western and Eastern approaches to bodywork and touch therapy. Modalities include Swedish massage to relax the body and mind; Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, and Sports techniques to address deeply-held tension, adhesions, and trigger points; and Ayurvedic Face & Scalp Treatments to release stress and tension in the head.
FLOOR MASSAGE Thai Yoga Massage is an Eastern bodywork technique designed to stretch the body and move emotions through assisted stretching combined with compression and energywork. It is typically performed on a mat on the floor; with the client wearing loose comfortable clothing; and usually without the use of massage oils, though aromatherapy can help enhance the service. REIKI When stress and emotions throw you off-kilter, Reiki treatments can help bring balance back to the subtle energy ('prana') layer of your body, thereby helping you feel calmer, lighter, or more grounded. As my teacher Darcy Skye puts it, "Reiki is a gentle hands-on-healing modality [which helps to channel] universal life force energy in the form of LOVE." It can be practiced with or without touching the body, and even from a distance. (See also www.reikikatie.weebly.com to learn more about Reiki.)
